Demond Wilson, the actor best known for playing Lamont Sanford on the NBC sitcom Sanford and Son, has passed away.
His son, Demond Wilson Jr., confirmed the news, saying Wilson died Friday morning at his home in Palm Springs, California. He died from health problems linked to cancer. The family did not share the specific type.
“He was a great man, and I loved him very much,” his son said.

Wilson starred on Sanford and Son from 1972 to 1977, becoming a household name as Fred Sanford’s level headed son. He later appeared as Raymond Ellis on the short lived series Baby… I’m Back! and also led the cast of The New Odd Couple, which ran for one season.
He also worked in films, including the 1993 movie Me and the Kid. After nearly 20 years away from acting, Wilson returned to the screen in 2023 with the drama Eleanor’s Bench.
